What We Offer

The RWAV Specialist GP Locum Program

The RWAV Specialist GP Locum Program supports the retention of doctors by providing short-term locum relief for holidays, sickness, education leave, and to assist workforce shortages.

We work with all solo and group practices, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), and community health organisations within rural and regional Victoria MM2-6.

Working as a locum GP gives you the freedom and flexibility to work when and where you want. As a locum GP with RWAV you will provide care and support to rural communities in some of Victoria’s most beautiful destinations, giving you a chance to explore stunning beaches, ski fields, inland and coastal areas. As well as providing GP sessional work, you have the option to support the local hospital and aged care facilities through Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) rights and After-hours/On-call work. Locum GP work can also be a great way to “try before you buy” for those thinking of relocating and seeking permanent options.

Looking for a GP locum job in regional or rural Victoria? Visit our vacancies page.

There are two ways to work as a locum GP with RWAV:

RWAV Independent Locum GP

This option is ideal for a GP seeking to work on a casual independent basis. You can opt to work as much or as little as you want, choosing when and where and the type of work you prefer.

As an independent locum, you negotiate your own terms and sessional rates of pay or percentage of billings. VMO and on-call rates are paid in addition and vary between health services.

You will be provided with suitable accommodation where required, and reimbursed for all reasonable travel expenses. RWAV will manage the paperwork, negotiate the best rates on your behalf and match you to exciting work that suits your needs and skills.

RWAV Employed Locum GP

This option is for those looking for lots of variety within general practice, longer-term stability, and financial security along with the opportunity to help rural communities and closing the gap in Aboriginal health across country Victoria.

As an RWAV employed GP Locum you will undertake multiple placements and build real connections to communities whilst maintaining work-life balance.

Benefits of this option include above market generous fortnightly salary, superannuation and access to salary packaging. RWAV manages your calendar and takes care of all the arrangements on your behalf, leaving you free to concentrate on your clinical work.
