What We Offer

Become a community host for medical students

RWAV is looking for rural residents to be a community host or contact, for medical students while they are on two-week placements in rural Victoria.

The John Flynn Placement Program (JFPP) aims to increase the number of doctors in rural and remote communities to address the current workforce shortage and improve the quality of healthcare for rural and remote Australians. JFPP students undertake eight weeks of placement over three or four years.

Are you passionate about the community you live in? Expressions of Interests are open for rural residents to be a community host or contact. The JFPP is your opportunity to show a medical student the unique community that you call home and the benefits of living in rural Victoria.

Role of community contact
Community contacts support JFPP medical students and arrange social interaction for them during their placements.

Role of community host
Host families provide accommodation and meals for JFPP students and are not expected to fulfil the social role (unless you are also acting as the community contact).
Both a community host and contact are key links between the JFPP scholar and the community – making introductions to other residents, organising social activities and providing opportunities to experience the rural culture.

Honorarium
Community hosts and contacts are also provided an honorarium per placement week.
Host $200 per placement week.
Community Contact $175 per placement week.

If you would like to become a community contact or host, please contact jfpp@rwav.com.au to register your interest and receive more information
