From October 2017 to March 2018, only 664 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients accessed outreach services within the RHOF, (or less than two percent) of the total number of clients (37,828). RWAV encourages all VicOutreach service providers to Ask the Question as a way to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are getting the right care, at the right time, with the right supports, without having to travel long distances.

Accurate data on how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders access healthcare services is an integral way in being able to determine whether their healthcare needs are being met through outreach services. To assist you in ‘Asking the Question’ , you are encouraged to attend our Cultural Respect and Appreciation Workshop training workshops held across the state throughout the year. Alternatively, there are a number of resources available including the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare resource entitled One simple question could help you Close the Gap and the Inner North West Primary Care Partnership Asking the Question Training Pack, which contains resources and videos. Let’s start ‘Asking the Question’!

If you would like any further information on our Cultural Respect and Appreciation Workshop or on Ask the Question, contact the RWAV VicOutreach team at vicoutreach@rwav.com.au, or call 03 9349 7800.
