What We Offer

RWAV has been supporting West Gippsland Healthcare with funding for weekly visits from a Physiotherapist and Aboriginal allied health assistant in partnership with Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation. This program was developed to improve physical activity and healthy life style choices within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in and around Drouin.

During the school holidays they ran the ‘Be Deadly, Get Healthy Community Day’ in Drouin.  AFL 9’s is a modified non-contact version of AFL suitable for all ages.  It was played as a mixed game with males and females ranging in age from 12-50 years old.  39 participants joined the day’s activities.  The game was followed by a healthy lunch and lots of water due to it being a warm day.  Staff from the local police branches, West Gippsland Hospital, and Ramahyuck attended the day to help build positive relationships with community members.

West Gippsland Health continues to run a weekly exercise group for the Baw Baw shire Aboriginal community on Tuesday afternoons.  The program aims to get the Aboriginal community exercising to help prevent chronic disease.
