In February 2021, RWAV met with three stakeholder groups from the Gippsland, Western Victoria and Murray regions to inform priorities for the Rural Health Workforce Support Activity (RHWSA) Program.
The RHWSA program aims to contribute to addressing workforce shortages and maldistribution in regional, rural and remote Australia by improving access and continuity of access to essential primary health care services, building health workforce capability, and growing the sustainability of the health workforce.
At these initial meetings, the findings for this year’s Health Workforce Needs Assessment were presented, which guide RWAV’s core recruitment, retention and support activities under the RHWSA.
Stakeholders included members from Eastern Victoria General Practice Training (EVGPT), Murray City Country Coast GP Training (MCCC), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Service for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH), General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA), the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), the Victorian Department of Health, Primary Health Networks, rural clinical schools and regional health organisations.
The meetings were also an opportunity for members to share their local knowledge, make commentary on data presented and express what they felt were priorities for 2021. We thank members for supporting RWAV’s efforts to improve access to quality health care in country Victoria and look forward to our continued work together.
